There are two non-essentials in life that I can’t live without…

            Coffee and the beach.

Our recent family getaway landed me a front-row seat to my favorite event – ocean gazing (more specifically, dolphin spotting with my kids). If you’re like me, it’s easy to get caught up in the tranquility of the ocean watching the waves roll in….and out.

As the waves cycle, they are actually energy passing through the water, causing it to move in a circular motion. Their energy is rhythmic though sometimes disrupted by a storm or tide change. No matter what elements are thrown their way, the waves are consistent.

            They have highs and lows.

They grow and build with strength and momentum.

And, when the waves crash, their energy is absorbed and recycled not to be forgotten.

This entire reflection got me thinking about the current social media wave we’re all riding during COVID-19. We know social media use is on the rise but the pandemic is also changing the way people are using social media.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and all the other popular social media platforms have become a way of life. In fact, the cycle of a Facebook ad is so much like the cycle of an ocean wave!

It builds strength and momentum when done correctly. And, when the ad has run its course, the impact of the ad lives well beyond the campaign within the community.

But, let’s face it: successful social media campaigns and strategies don’t just happen.

The truth is, developing your brand and your message costs time and money. But now, it doesn’t have to. As the saying goes, “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”

We’re living in a time when people are flocking to social media to stay informed with the news, their loved ones, and communities. Non-essential products and services are being overlooked as behaviors shift.

The good news is that behavioral health professionals need an online presence now more than ever because YOU are essential! People are craving connection to combat isolation, loneliness, and distancing. We know this is an especially difficult time for those suffering from common mental health conditions.

So, as we continue to push through this pandemic, will your brand be there in support?

Do your digital campaigns and strategies have the strength and momentum to build like a powerful wave and spread every along the entire shore?
